How do I use VocabKit?
Install the VocabKit Chrome extension. Once installed, simply select (highlight) any text on a webpage you want to translate. An icon will appear near your selection. Click this icon (or hover over it, depending on your settings) to open a popup with the translation, part-of-speech, example sentences, and alternative meanings.
How do I save a word to my vocabulary?
After translating a word or phrase using the popup tooltip, simply click the 'Save' button at the bottom of the tooltip. The word, its translation, and associated details will be added to your personal vocabulary list.
Can I change how the translation popup is triggered?
Yes! In the extension's settings (accessible via the main popup), you can choose your preferred activation method: clicking the icon that appears after text selection, hovering over the selected text for a short duration, or enabling both.
Which languages does VocabKit support?
VocabKit supports translation between numerous languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Portuguese, Italian, and many more. You can set your default source and target languages in the extension's settings. What information does the translation popup show?
Besides the main translation, the popup provides contextual information like the word's part of speech (noun, verb, etc.), example sentences showing how the word is used in the original language, and sometimes alternative translations for different meanings or contexts.
Can I export my saved vocabulary?
Yes! You can export your entire vocabulary list, just your favorites, or selected words from the Vocabulary page within the extension popup. The export format is designed for easy import into Anki and other Spaced Repetition Systems (SRS).
Does VocabKit offer text-to-speech pronunciation?
Yes, both the translation tooltip (when viewing a translation on a webpage) and the vocabulary list in the popup have buttons to listen to the pronunciation of the original word using your browser's built-in text-to-speech capabilities.
Is VocabKit free to use?

Yes you need to create an account to use VocabKit. This allows you to save your vocabulary list, settings, and translation history securely in the cloud.
