Translate text inside images
Some text cannot be selected: a photo of a sign, a screenshot, a comic, a subtitle burned into a video. VocabKit can read it for you.

How it works
10 image translations a day on Free, 100 on Premium.
Press Alt+O
Or right-click an image or a video and choose Translate with VocabKit. Double-clicking an image where nothing can be selected also offers it.
Drag a box around the text
Only that area is sent to be read.
Check the text
VocabKit reads it and shows it in a box you can edit. Fix anything it misread.
Translate and save
The translation opens in the usual panel, with Save.
Where it helps
- Photos and screenshots
- Signs, menus, labels and posts shared as images.
- Comics and infographics
- Text that is part of the drawing.
- Subtitles burned into a video
- Pause, then drag a box around the line. For YouTube videos with real captions, select the caption text instead.
- Any script
- Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Devanagari, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean text. Clear, printed text works best.
Questions
For text you can select, the normal panel is quicker.
How do I translate text in an image?
Press Alt+O and drag a box around the text. You can also right-click an image or a video and choose Translate with VocabKit. VocabKit reads the text, shows it in a box you can edit, and translates it.
Can I fix the text before it is translated?
Yes. The text VocabKit reads appears in an editable box first. Correct any mistakes, then translate.
Does it work on subtitles burned into a video?
Yes, if you can see them on the page. Pause the video, press Alt+O and drag a box around the subtitle. Some streaming services protect their video, and Chrome then captures a black frame, so it may not work in their players.
How many images can I translate?
10 a day on the Free plan and 100 a day on Premium.
What happens to the image?
Only the area you drag a box around leaves your computer. Our server reads it with Google Cloud Vision and does not store the image.
Can I save words from an image?
Yes. Once the text is translated, press Save and it goes into your vocabulary like any other word.
Try it on the next page you read.
Free to install. No card needed for the Free plan.
